About Us
My name is Suvania and I am the Co-Founder of Artisanal Spice.
At the beginning of 2021, I launched an artisan startup with my dad (Danny) and cousin (Samistha). Artisanal Spice was born out of a need to find purpose and meaning again in our lives. I was working in Singapore for two years (2018 - 2020) and due to Covid-19 and company-wide downsizing, I lost my job. I had to return to South Africa in October 2020 and I had to figure out my next. The job market in SA was at an all-time low and unemployment on the rise. My dad and cousin too were unemployed hence starting this initiative with the both of them.
What started as a passion project has grown tremendously in a few months. Artisanal Spice is what gets us out of bed every morning and in a positive headspace to keep going. In our first 6 months of our journey we had been recognised by both Food24 and KAMERS I Makers, see link to the articles on our blog page.
Artisanal Spice is a collective vision bringing handcrafted, locally sourced and plant-based spice blends, sauces, dressings, and relishes to your home. We specialise in bringing our customer’s unique products and flavor combinations inspired by our families recipes, traditions and travels. Each unique pantry product pays homage to age-old traditions and family members who have never before had this kind of recognition.
Long celebrated recipes have been adapted, pushing the limits of South African Indian cuisine, elevating these much loved recipes and creating both sophisticated and accessible pantry classics.
We have four current ranges 'Launch', 'What the Fruit', 'Chilli Journey' and 'Around the Globe'.
